OSHKOSH – A women’s professional basketball team is going to make its home at the Menominee Nation Arena.

The arena announced the news Thursday afternoon on its Facebook page and introduced a poll to choose the new team’s name.

The options are: Wisco Glo; Fox Valley Vixens; Oshkosh Fighting Sturgeon; Wisconsin Hops; Oshkosh Bandanas. Comment on the Facebook post to cast your vote.

No information was immediately available as to what league or affiliation the team would have. It was also unclear if the women’s team would be linked with the Milwaukee Bucks’ G-League team, the Wisconsin Herd. Nearby Women’s NBA teams are the Minnesota Lynx and the Chicago Sky.

No information was available about how the team formed or its leadership.

Commenters reacted to the suggested names Thursday afternoon. Some expressed interest in Fox Valley Vixens, but others said it was a sexist name inappropriate for today’s world.

Some readers suggested new names — like the Oshkosh Does, keeping in the theme of the Bucks and the Herd. Another person offered the Aviators to honor the Experimental Aircraft Association’s history in the city. A few comical suggestions: the Lake Flies and the Cheddars.
