NBA news: James Harden reveals take on chances of beating Giannis, LeBron James to MVP | Other | Sport

The Rockets are in fine form this year, and find themselves in seventh place in the Western Conference.

Fresh from a three-game win streak, Harden’s side is very much in playoff contention.

And that is partly due to the shooting guard’s point scoring haul over the past few games.

On Thursday night, he scored 45 points against the Celtics.

In his past nine games, he has scored an average of 39.2 points-per-game.

And speaking after the Celtics win, he admitted that he is close to his form that saw him earn the MVP award last year.

“I mean, yeah, of course I should be in that conversation,” he told ESPN.

“I mean, I receive a lot of hate, but it won’t stop me from going out there and killing every single night, being the dog that I am.

“You can name a few other people that should be in the conversation.

“But realistically? It’s coming back.”

Despite Harden’s confidence, the odds are tight for who will walk away with the crown.

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is among the favourites, along with Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

But Harden believes that his work-rate and effort he puts in is going to set him apart from the rest.

“Like I’ve said before, it’s just the work that you put in,” he continued.

“If you put the work in, you’re going to get the results.

“So those moves I was doing tonight on the court, I was doing them yesterday in practice and after practice after everybody left.

“If you take those shots, and you’re confident in those shots, those shots will go in.

“Sometimes they might not go in, but mostly they will go in.

“So you’ve just got to keep going and keep working.”
