Time flies when you’re a power couple.

A year ago this month the world learned retiring race car driver Danica Patrick and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers were officially dating. Their social media posts, red carpet arrivals and occasional interviews have provided a window into their relationship.

Some highlights from the spectating — and speculating — on the sidelines.

That first kiss

It was Patrick’s last Daytona 500 as a driver, but it was the first real look at them as a couple. Patrick had confirmed just a month earlier that she and Rodgers were dating when cameras captured the kiss on pit road before she climbed in her stock car for the last time on Feb. 18. The celeb buzz has been nonstop ever since.

Wisconsin date nights

Laughing at cheese curd and booyah jokes, cheering on the Milwaukee Bucks on a Friday night … Hey, they’re just like us.

Well, except that when they went to see comedian Jim Gaffigan’s Fixer Upper Tour at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon, they also got a VIP invite to come backstage and hang out with him. And when they were sitting courtside at the Bucks-Celtics game in Milwaukee, they got a wild ovation from a sold-out crowd when it was announced Rodgers had joined the team’s ownership.

OK, so they’re not quite like us, but we can pretend when Patrick spends a Saturday at Titletown with her family or Rodgers catches The Avett Brothers concert in Appleton.

Pledging her allegiance to the Pack

It’s a storyline the media couldn’t get enough of: Patrick grew up in Roscoe, Illinois, but was born in the hospital in Beloit just over the Wisconsin border. She was a Chicago Bears fan her entire life … until she started dating the quarterback of the division rivals. So now what? She answered the question repeatedly and set the record straight when she told Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night talk show in July that she’s not just a Packers fan now but “the biggest Packers fan.”

Patrick was spotted sporting the green and gold in Instagram photos this season, and not just at Lambeau Field. She also represented during a trip last month to Paris, where she stopped in at Wos Bar, which bills itself as the only official Packers bar of Europe.

Back-to-back red carpet moments

The couple who first met at the ESPYs in 2012 and kept in touch sporadically over the years — initially by email — came full circle when they walked the red carpet together at this year’s awards in July. US Magazine gushed how they “looked so in love.” People magazine declared it “their red carpet debut.” Others simply marveled at their height difference or drooled over her gladiator sandals.

The next night they did it all over again, walking the carpet together at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards and sharing a kiss for the cameras. Patrick won the Legend Award at the Nickelodeon awards — an honor that meant getting covered in gold slime.

A couple that had kept things fairly private up until then, sans some well-documented racetrack public displays of affection, officially became a #powercouple by summer, fire emojis and all.

Going for comedy gold in ‘Me, Danica’

Patrick made history as the first woman to host the ESPYs, but Rodgers stole the show when he made a surprise cameo in her very funny parody of “I, Tonya.” The pre-recorded trailer for “Me, Danica” spoofed the 2017 biopic about former figure skater Tonya Harding with Patrick playing a race car driver version of herself that resembled Harding, complete with serious gum chewing and mall bangs.

A dweeby Rodgers, wearing a crewneck sweater, fake mustache and glasses, showed up as her boyfriend, a take on Harding’s husband Jeff Gillooly — “a real piece of (expletive),” as Harding’s mom (played by Patrick, in another wig) said.

Where in the world are Aaron and Danica?

They put on some serious miles together in 2018, including a trip to Africa as part of a mission to fit children and adults with hearing aids, a stop in India to meet the Dalai Lama, a photo opp at Stonehenge in England and trips to Hawaii and Wyoming.

Both Patrick and Rodgers have talked about their shared love of travel. Rodgers has called her “a laid-back and low-maintenance” travel partner who he is getting to come around to his love of history and visiting historical sites around the world. We’d watch that TV travel show.

Packers-Bears season opener

Packers-Bears. Season opener. Lambeau Field. “Sunday Night Football.” It was inevitable there would be a shot of Patrick at some point during the broadcast.

As the cameras cut to a very tense-looking Patrick in a suite as an injured Rodgers engineered a dramatic comeback in the final 9 minutes, sportscaster Al Michaels noted (in very unTMZ-like fashion) that she and Rodgers were “an item” and she was watching “her man.”

Sadly, the Danica Cam didn’t become a regular feature the rest of the season.

Becoming their own Halloween costume

You knew you’re an A-list couple when people start dressing up like you for Halloween. There was no shortage of folks from Wisconsin to Colorado to Vermont getting their GoDaddy lime green and mustaches on in social media posts, with some of the end results a little more impressive than others.

Unicorns, cowboys and birthday bashes

No small birthdays for these two.

She turned 36 on March 25 and celebrated with a unicorn-themed party. The unicorn headbands were a girls-only accessory, but Rodgers was there with a glass of bubbly in hand.

He turned 35 on Dec. 2 with a murder-mystery dinner in Green Bay after the Packers-Cardinals game. Patrick planned it, but Rodgers was onto it, telling the Wisconsin State Journal a few days prior, “There’s some sort of surprise being cooked up.” Celeb sports blogger Terez Owens posted a photo of the party peeps, including Rodgers and Patrick, dressed in cowboy garb.

All those little relationship revelations

Through (mostly) Patrick’s interviews and appearances came little insights into a relationship that began with the code names “Green Bay” and “Chicago.”

Some were sweet. “He’s funny, he’s very kind, he’s thoughtful, he’s super smart. And he’s really good at football. And he’s tall and he’s big, and I like that,” she told Rachael Ray in April.

Some were silly. During a Q&A as part of her keynote speaker appearance in Fargo, North Dakota, she outed Rodgers on the line he used on her when they first met — from “Dumb and Dumber,” no less.

But it’s perhaps comments from Rodgers to Michele Tafoya for a deep-dive interview in Artful Living in October that were the most telling: “We’re just two people who enjoy being around each other and love each other. We’re really into each other.”

Caution: hot glue gun

In a two-part year-end post on her Instagram, Patrick recapped what she called an “epic” year. Photos ran the gamut from her final Daytona 500 and Indy 500 races to touching her head with her foot, but it was the final one that got the most attention.

It’s a shot of her and Rodgers in Santa hats with elf ears at a table covered with paints, ribbons and sparkly pompoms. No. 12 is wielding a glue gun. “That time I got Aaron to decorate stockings for each other,” she wrote.
