NBA trade news: James Harden and Chris Paul make demand ahead of deadline | Other | Sport

That’s according to Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, who insists Houston are actively looking to strike a deal in the next few weeks.

Houston looked to be spiralling out of control at the start of the season having won just one of their opening six games.

But they have turned a corner recently, losing only twice in their last 13 matches with Harden playing at MVP level.

The six-time All-Star has averaged nearly 40 points per game since December 12 and are now fifth in the Western Conference.

But having come so close to reaching the NBA Finals last season, Houston are keen to go one step further this time around.

And Morey admits he has been in discussion with both Harden and Chris Paul about any potential deals that could help their championship hopes.

“We’re for now and in peak James Harden as people see,” Morey said on The Rich Eisen Show.

“Chris Paul is obviously playing at a high level but a little bit older.

“Our goal is to win now so for sure we’re always trying to trade off some of our future to try and win now.”

He added: “With our superstars, this has been a big part of our success,”

“People want to say great things about our front office and our coaching staff, and that’s always appreciated.

“But I think the one thing we know is that this is really about James Harden, Chris Paul and our star-level players.

“It’s a humbling thing that they’re both playing at such a high level, especially James right now, that we feel responsibility to their career so we’re constantly focused on how can we help them win.

“So there’s a constant dialogue with them about potential players who can maybe come in and help but it’s a partnership with our players and we would never bring someone in that we didn’t think was a great fit, our chemistry is too important for that.”

Houston start a three-game home stretch against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday (1am GMT) before hosting the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers.
