The Bucks, who are loaded in the backcourt, will waive Meeks, sources said. Milwaukee signed Pat Connaughton as a free agent in the offseason and drafted Donte DiVincenzo in the first round to go with returnees including Eric Bledsoe and Malcolm Brogdon.
The NBA suspended Meeks in April for 25 games for a violation of the league’s drug program. He has 19 games left on the suspension.
The 31-year-old Meeks averaged 6.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in 77 games as a reserve for the Wizards last season, with 34 percent shooting on 3-point attempts.
Those 2017-18 statistics are within range of Meeks’ career averages over 531 games, including 204 starts, across nine seasons with six teams in the league: 9.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists, with 37 percent shooting on 3s.
The nine-year veteran was originally selected by Milwaukee in the second round of the 2009 draft before being traded that season to Philadelphia.
